About

Dr. Jo Mynard is the director of the Self-Access Learning Centre (SALC) and assistant director of the English Language Institute (ELI) at Kanda University of International Studies (KUIS) in Japan.

She is the editor of SiSAL Journal (Studies in Self-Access Learning) and a member of the IATEFL Learner Autonomy Special Interest Group committee.

She completed her doctorate in Education (TEFL) at the University of Exeter, UK in 2003 and her M.Phil, in Applied Linguistics at Trinity College, Dublin in 1997.

Before joining KUIS, she worked as an associate professor of English language at NUCB/Koryo College in Nagoya. Prior to coming to Japan, she worked in the United Arab Emirates and was the Coordinator of the Learning Enhancement Centre at Zayed University in Abu Dhabi.

Her professional interests are learner autonomy, advising in language learning, self-access learning and CALL.

When she isn't working, she likes travelling, hiking, swimming and reading.
